Self-portrait: Louis Scherfig
My name is Louis Scherfig, and I am 17 years old. As you may already have guessed, I live in Denmark and I am one of the lucky students who are going to spend a week in France with such wonderful Frenchmen as you. Well, I just
want to tell you who I am and what I stand for. I live in southern Denmark with my mother, brother and sister. My parents are divorced, and my father lives in Copenhagen with his girlfriend and their two children. I am a very happy boy, I guess, with a lot of humour and joy. My friends and I make a lot of fusses and rows, but of course we don’t get into trouble with any authorities of any kind. To point out some of my interests, the first thing that crosses my mind is music. I am a very big fan of music, but not in particular. I just listen to what I find worth listening to, no matter if it’s English trip hop or Mexican guitar mariachis. It’s just the way the music expresses itself through sound that fascinates me. The best thing I know is to fall asleep with the tones of Mark Knopfler or Sigur Rós floating into my dreams. In the presence of music I can relax and regenerate. Actually I play some guitar myself, and that means a lot to me too. When you come home from a hard and hassled school day, the best thing to do is to play some melancholy riffs, and just glide with the guitar as a canoe on the Mississippi river. I simply love that. Some of my school-mates and I actually formed a funk band, which we called Midnight Mood. We’ve played together for about a year, and performed several times at several occasions, with flare and energy. When all homework is done, I chat with my friends and play some computer games, but because of the position of our house, I often fix some wood for the stove, or hang out the laundry, just to prove that I am a healthy boy with good behaviour towards othersJ I really look forward to the exchange programme, and I hope that we all get to get along well. I wish to learn about French culture, and I hope that you are willing to show us Danish people some aspects of your life in France. With expectation, Louis
